An update On Vallarta’s Terminal 2 Construction
Puerto Vallarta International Airport is on track to revolutionize air travel in Latin America with the construction of its Terminal 2, a project that is currently 40% complete. Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, recently toured the construction site, confirming the project’s progress alongside officials from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).
The new terminal, spanning over 89,000 square meters, is designed to handle both domestic and international flights, significantly increasing the airport’s capacity to over eight million passengers annually. This expansion is crucial, as the airport is a key hub, handling 6.7 million passengers in 2024 and ranking among Mexico’s top five airports for international connectivity. The project is part of GAP’s 2025-2029 Development Master Plan, which allocates 26 billion pesos towards airport improvements in Jalisco.
The terminal is projected to be completed by the end of 2026. According to GAP data, the airport saw a 14.2% increase in domestic passengers between January and February 2025, reaching 422.1 thousand travelers. While international passenger numbers slightly decreased by 5.2%, the airport remains a critical gateway for international tourism.
