The San Pancho Music Festival is celebrating its 18th year this February, running from Friday, Feb. 23rd through Sunday, Feb. 25th, 2018 in San Pancho, Nayarit. Over its many editions festival has become a valuable cultural event in Riviera Nayarit.  It continuously attracts new tourists to the area, and has a growing population of followers.  Without doubt the Festival has contributed significantly to the town's official designation as the Cultural Center of Nayarit.   

What was once a tiny homegrown music festival in a resident's backyard, the San Pancho Music Festival has now grown to become one of the premiere music events in the region! Now in its 18th year, the Festival continues to be free to the public through the generosity of the artists, volunteers, donations from the public, and a few friends of the festival. With two stages the festival is able to switch between groups so that there is a minimal amount of waiting time between acts, compared to most other music festival formats.

As in past years, the Festival not only features many of the talented performers from our region, but it also includes artists from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Latin America. With the variety of performers onboard for this year, we are confident that there will be something for everyone.

The Festival always takes place the last weekend in February. This year those dates are Friday, Feb 23rd, Saturday, Feb 24th, and Sunday, Feb. 25th. The music starts at 5pm and goes until 11pm each night. A schedule of acts performing each night will soon be published on the festival's website, as well as on our Facebook page.  Please visit the website for more details on the performers, and their performance times.

El Festival tiene lugar en la Plaza del Sol, frente a la iglesia de San Pancho. Teatro Vallarta

The 4th edition of the annual fundraiser 'What a Drag' will take place on Sunday, February 18 (8:00 pm) at Teatro Vallarta, with all proceeds going to the Banderas Bay Women's Shelter. Vallarta's finest men will get all dolled up, donning make-up, wigs, dresses and high heels, to compete in Puerto Vallarta's annual drag competition for men.

What started out in 2015 as a fun way to raise money and awareness for victims of domestic violence in the Banderas Bay area has become one of the most anticipated yearly events in Puerto Vallarta. And if you've ever attended, you know why. Every year these men trade in their boots for stilettos and get up on stage to entertain the audience with their hilarious antics - all to raise money for the Banderas Bay Women's Shelter.

To date, the event has sold-out every year, and has raised well over $1.5 million pesos to support the shelter, which offers women and children who are victims of domestic violence with an immediate, temporary and safe living environment.

Thanks to Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, this year's FUNdraiser will be held at Teatro Vallarta, where there will be plenty of seats for everyone who wants to enjoy an evening of laugh-out-loud fun, while supporting this worthy cause. Watching these brave straight men bravely and brazenly vie for the 'Miss What A Drag' crown in a competition that includes talent - from hilarious skits to singing, dancing and lip-synching - evening wear, and racy Q & A rounds, is an experience you won't soon forget.

Located in the heart of the Romantic Zone in Puerto Vallarta, the Act II Entertainment Stages complex boasts a 180 seat theater and a 98 seat cabaret where original productions are presented, as well as a cozy bar and lounge area where performers serenade patrons. 

It all started in 2009, when Karrie Sebryk, founder of the Boutique Theater, brought Mininni back into the world of theater with the staging of Robin’s Hoods. Subsequently, Mininni would produce and direct The Foreigner and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, both of which enjoyed unprecedented success. Those shows were the impetus for him and his partner, Elizabeth Wiggins, to begin to think about founding their own company. In 2012, ACT II Entertainment was born with the iconic musical The Rocky Horror Show as its first production. The success of The Rocky Horror Show inspired them to make a large investment and open their own space, where invited artists could also be presented. A year later, the site was inaugurated at the intersection of Basilio Badillo and Insurgentes streets (the point where El Centro and the Romantic Zone come together), offering three wonderful spaces designed to host different stage productions: The Main Stage, The Red Room Cabaret and The Encore Lounge.

Although the first two years were challenging, the perseverance of both Mininni and his partner Óscar Cisneros, operations manager, allowed ACT II to stay on its feet and emerge as the principal venue for music, cabaret, dance and theater. “Today, Puerto Vallarta is an ideal destination for culture and entertainment, attracting millions of visitors and temporary residents each year. To think that we have fostered that change is magnificent.” says Mininni. “What an incredible feeling when we see visitors purchasing show tickets for multiple shows months ahead of time, making their entertainment part of the vacation experience.”

This event was born of magic, the inspiration of its creators and the support of the sui generis community that encourages culture, the arts and open-air activities, underscoring the Bohemian atmosphere of this coastal town that's captured domestic and international visitors' fancy.

During a press conference on Tuesday, January 23, the organizers and founders of the festival, Gabriel Villarrubia and Alonso Aréchiga, along with Richard Zarkin, the Public Relations Manager for the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, shared the details and news about this fifth edition, which is expected to attract over 13,000 visitors.
