Tourism in Puerto Vallarta: there has been no low season

Puerto Vallarta, one of the places with a significant number of visitors, has in 2022 already surpassed the tourism figures of 2019, the year before the unusual influx caused by the health crisis of 2020 and 2021.

Ludwig Estrada Virgen, director of municipal tourism, assures us that this year the influx of visitors, occupancy, and overall economic spillover in Jalisco’s beach tourism zone were above average.

According to the official quoted by the local newspaper El Occidental, “we are no longer comparing ourselves with 2020, nor with 2021. We are comparing ourselves with 2019, because it was one of the best years and 2022 has surpassed the tourist influx, occupancy, and economic spillover.”

Before 2020, the low season on the Jalisco coast began in March or April, and by May or June, hotel occupancy was at 40% or less. This year, however, hotel occupancy in the fifth and sixth months of the year was 80% or more.

Estrada Virgen stressed the importance of hotel occupancy during the current summer vacation, noting that rooms are full, in addition to the conventions scheduled for October and the increased number of international airlines and planes that are arriving.

However, the United Kingdom’s Manchester and London airports are also recording arrivals, with 20,000 people each weekend, of which 40% are foreigners.

The United States and Canada are the international destinations sending the most flights to Mexico’s western beaches.
