New suspension bridge over the Cuale River in Puerto Vallarta is inaugurated

The pedestrian suspension bridge that connects Matamoros Street and the Isla del Ro Cuale, which collapsed along with the vehicular bridge last year after the river flooded due to the passage of Hurricane “Nora,” has now been rebuilt, according to Puerto Vallarta’s mayor, Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodriguez. Professor Michel emphasized the significance of the bridge as a daily thoroughfare for locals and visitors, who were represented by Mrs. Leticia Alarcón, tenants of the Ro Cuale Municipal Market, and Mrs. Graciela Ortiz, president of the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. He recalled that the Vallarta community helped the engineer Marcial Reséndiz build the first suspension bridge over the Cuale River in 1932, next to what would later be the first vehicular bridge built in a hundred days, and that it was destroyed by the rising river in August 2021 following the passage of “Nora.”

Professor Michel commended the pledge to continue carrying out more public works for the benefit of the population, to the extent that resources are available in the City Council, in a historical context of the development that this area has through over the years. He used the occasion to wish everyone in attendance a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, adding that “these are times to smooth things up and be close to the family.” Mrs. Graciela Ortiz congratulated the mayor and the City Council on behalf of the residents of the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood for the rehabilitation of this vital transit route for the community, but more so for tourists.

“The way they’ve done it is really lovely.” I will always be grateful for the community and for myself. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Professor Michel and his companions inspected the bridge to assess the quality of the construction, which used municipal funds and cost around $1,060,000 pesos. Councilwoman Mara Elena Curiel Preciado, City Council General Secretary Felipe de Jess Rocha Reyes, and Director of Municipal Public Works Carlos Arturo Morales were also present for the ceremony.
